Military, Denim & Sneaks

Back to Basics: Weekend Uniform

Hello beautiful people! Time to get back to basics. After weeks of party dresses galore, it’s time to layer on your warmest weekend uniform.

Looking ahead to SS17, here are a few wardrobe pieces that will take you from winter all the way through to spring with comfort, style, and ease.

Military:
Start with your most important layer, the winter coat. This season’s daredevil jackets don’t just finish an outfit, they define it. A street style jacket with military vibes is a must-have for this season. Military/band jackets are gong to be huge through to spring. I love this style for it’s cool, not-trying-too-hard look. Plus this jacket can be styled so many ways. Cropped or long, it’s a great add-on piece for layering, or it can be used to give an ultra-femme look an unexpected forward-feeling element.

I found this one at Zara (sadly its sold out) and it just might be my favorite wardrobe piece ever. The navy blue color is a neutral in my book, and it has just the right amount of gold accents with hints of velvet trim.  If you are looking to add one to your closet, try hunting for a real vintage marching band jacket. It’s a fab option that will make you look creative and unique. So cool. So stylish. Exactly what you need in your life.

If you aren’t ready to join the band, try a leopard jacket (as seen here) also known as the other street style scene-stealer.

Distressed Denim:
The next important piece is your denim. Everyday denim with a smattering of edgy details – think cool washes, raw hems and distressing which will still reign supreme in 2017. This grey wash pair is also from Zara (do you think I have a favorite place to shop?!) They have a high waist, with ankle zips and fit like a dream.

White Sneakers:
The last piece is a pair of athleisure sneaks. These Adidas Stan Smith’s have taken the fashion world by storm. If you aren’t sure how to style a retro pair of trainers, start by pairing them with basic jeans. I’ve had mine since summer, and have come to the conclusion you can actually wear them with just about anything. (Last seen here.) From leather pants to full skirts. The best part is they are equally comfortable as they are stylish (which is always refreshing to see in an “it” item in the fashion world.) Oh, and they’re are affordable too. Since they are literally still having a moment in the fashion, join in and get yourself a pair, as the athleisure trend isn’t going anywhere soon.

One you have your effortless jacket, weekend denim and cool tennies add in some texture. Winter coats can add bulk, so remember to mind proportions. Layer over a graphic tee or sweater. Then add a scarf, hat, and even a crossover body bag that will keep balance, when creating a signature styled look. This gold double buckle belt is a great way to rescue a look from everyday to achieve extraordinary new feats of style.

Winter basics are less boring than ever, and I couldn’t be happier about it.  Hope you have a lovely weekend friends, and find a way to elevate your Saturday and Sunday looks!
