Cold Weather Picks: Fur Hats & Porcelain Boots

When the temps drop there’s no need to sacrifice style in order to stay warm.

Snow boots fit for a snow queen, and a plush faux fur cold-weather trapper guarantees a charming outing when faced with extreme temps. Be a certified snow bunny in this no-fail outfit combo that will keep you snug and ward off that winter chill.

Here in the Mid West we are familiar with arctic blasts, sudden temperature plunges and freezing cold weather in general. (All of which are great reasons not to leave the house.) Since most of us can’t hibernate all winter long (sigh), snowy commutes, trips to the store and even stir-crazy walks in the winter woods are possible when suitably dressed. Snow pants and a full-body bunny suit may keep you toasty but aren’t the most fashion-friendly. So here are all the essentials you need to look cool even when it's freezing outside.

If there is one winter necessity you should have in your closet it’s a warm pair of knee-high boots (snow drifts are no joke around here.) Hunter boots are a go-to classic, and these arctic-cool porcelain blues were made for blustery days. (See posts here, and here featuring Hunter green.) Timeless and functional, these weatherproof wellies were made to retain heat and top my cold-weather picks. Everybody owns a pair of black boots, so why not stand out in an eye-catching color? While the hue of the moment may be pink, icy blue feels like a neutral that works in every season.

From the bottom to the top, a warm hat may very well be your best friend come winter winds. If you like your accessories to make a statement, then this trapper hat is the one. Why not go for serious warmth with oversized faux fur? This is one statement piece that will bring your look Scandinavian-ski-lodge-chic whether you are getting ready to hit the slopes or not. Leave some hair styled around your face or twist it back in a low side braid, and let the cozy fully surround you with a blanket of warmth.

Pair your boots and eye-catching hat with cool metallic’s, like these bold sunnies and a streamlined silhouette with a structured jacket.

If it’s warm enough to sport a bare leg, sheer tights layered with over the-knee socks, like these crème cable knits, will save your tootsies from going numb. (You can even layer up on socks!) As long as you have your head and feet pleasingly covered, you should be good.

In summation, a cute cap and broken-in boots (plus a warm coat, soft sweater and knit tights) are your cool essentials that will fashionably bring you face to face with the furry critters of the woods, or at the very least allow you to run from the house to your car without catching hypothermia...
