Rob and I have no problem playing tourists when exploring somewhere new.
Last weekend we hit up Chicago. It’s easily one of my favorite places to visit, plus it’s home to some of our best friends who always show us a good time.
Drinks! Food! Friends! Happiness.
Long weekends away, within reasonable driving distance -- these are some my most-loved trips – full of new sights, sounds, tastes and smells. (Plus the shopping you guys!)
I don’t know how many times I looked over at Rob and asked, “Why don’t we live here again?”
The hustle of the city. The people watching. The fashions. I ADORE IT.
While I have a soft spot in my heart for our city and local community, I can’t help but feed off the high-energy big city. Everyone seems to be going somewhere, and doing something! I love that. Everyone looks so stylish and fit. Haha, I know that’s not completely true, but I noticed. (City mouse//country mouse is not make-believe.)
We woke up at 6am Saturday and because of the hour time difference, it only felt like 7am. We headed over to Millennium Park to scope “Cloud Gate” or what everyone calls “The Bean.” In person, the bean is a magic bean.

I wasn’t sure what to expect – but it really was cool in person and I’m so glad we went! It was one of those hmmm…. out of all the things we could go do/see in Chicago, this is the right choice, right?
We went early so we wouldn’t have to fight a crowd. Although, there were people everywhere! Bikers, runners, yogis, tourists, families, cabs and delivery trucks, early coffee drinkers and the lonely.
Walking through the park we almost missed the spot – but when it came into view – wow. I can see how this piece of art inspires quiet reflection in the middle of a mega-city – plus it makes for a great selfie! (I kept waiting - imagining a glittery unicorn-dinosaur popping out of that silver nugget.)
Part of me will always be a dreamer. I found this giant, metallic legume rather romantic. It’s so shiny and bright. That endless blue sky against the cityscape is futuristic. Hopeful. A couple behind us were posing and kissing, and I just melted at how a visionary piece of art brings people together. Anything that can inspire a kiss is inherently good.
If you ever get the chance, it’s worth the walk through the park.
As for my outfit – I love overalls and their youthful appeal. (Have you seen this post here?) I found this black starry night bandana at Zara when we walked the Magnificent Mile and it looks just as cute tied loosely around a purse strap. Black makes for a tall-slimming effect. Paired with retro white shades, stripes, and a strappy heel the result was graphic against the contrast of the early morning city.
I can’t wait to go back!
