Velvet Crush
Jessica Wagner
Merry Christmas Eve guys! I hope this holiday finds you and fills you full with peace and joy!
We are spending the weekend in the best way possible, at home (!) surrounded by family and friends. I know I’m not alone when I say it’s the part I love most about Christmas, being together. The older I get the more my relationships count for more than anything else in the world, and I’m ever grateful for you!
How To Wear Velvet
The countdown is on. With the New Year on the horizon, it’s time to start planning your NYE looks. So continues the soirée-ready dresses, twirly skirts and easy elegant accessories.
Soft-to-touch velvet, festive furs and embellished textures are all your party-ready companions. This NYE go for a striking silhouette in a slinky slip dress that oozes glitz and glamour. Golden rose details mixed with a little lace, mesh, and metallic highlights will bring you into the New Year with a touch of femme fatal. (Because who doesn’t want to be a mysterious seductress who charms and ensnares lovers, leading to compromising and dangerous situations?)
Velvet is by far one of my favorite trends of the season.
This luxe fabric is taking over, from block heeled boots and stilettos, to slip dresses and hair bows, it’s the perfect way to next-level. You can give it a casual twist, which will give your look a special touch during the day, or you can keep it sexy and sophisticated for night.
Authentic velvet is one of the softest materials. If you dream of bathing in luxury and repose, this is the way to do it. (This particular dress made me want to toss myself on a lounger, drink bourbon and eat bon-bons all day.)
A velvet dress has instant glam factor – a standout statement maker yet timelessly romantic. This probably has something to do with velvet coming and going in and out of style over the years. (I actually have a few vintage pieces from my mother and grandmother, which are amazing.) This is what gives this fabric a nostalgic air that is both flattering and glamorous.
It’s also the reason velvet can assume so many personalities. It's a fabric of nobility and royalty (think Princess Diana) and at the other end of the spectrum, it has a dangerous side, with connections to glam-rock and nighttime seduction. In it’s latest revival, it has a wonderful arty-eccentric and offbeat side.
This Zara velvet crossover dress is all things lush and vintage. It’s tulip asymmetrical hem, and knot detail make for an interesting and shapely silhouette. Add some velvety texture to your next night out by slipping into a deep-cut dress. (Your man won’t be able to help but drink it up.) This one comes in blush or emerald green and is a great way to add some holiday shimmer to your next party.
My advice for holiday party dressing is simple — when in doubt go for a little gold, a little glam, and all the right accessories.
Start with putting on your favorite sparkly skirt, top, or dress. Feel free to mix metallics or shades of gold. Anything with a bit of shimmer. Now all you need are a few festive accessories. A glittery clutch, like this brocade vintage one (it gets so much use this time of year.) A party look can never have too many statement jewels. This lace chocker is actually meant to be worn as a headband, and my delicate layer is a barely there sparkle Stella & Dot wishing necklace. It’s so dainty and is in one of my favorite hues – rose gold. Throw on a pair of classic pumps you can dance in and you’re set!
Go glam this NYE and don’t look back. Wear something that feels special and you are sure to capture the moment forever. That’s the magic - there are so many ways to transport to another time or place. By wearing a memorable outfit you're sure to reminisce about where you, who you were with, and how you felt.
Raise a glass, drape your faux fur over your shoulders, dance past midnight and look like a toast-worthy mega-babe as you ring in the New Year.
Cheers! See you in 2017!
