Tights For Spring

Jessica Wagner

Berkshire Legwear

Legwear has been apart of my life since I was a little girl. Ballet leotards and tights were my second uniform until I was 12. Back then, pale pinksparkle, and perhaps a leg warmer or two ruled my weekend-wear. Today, I keep tights on hand mostly for when I want to get glam (or need to have a quick Maniac flash-dance.)

I was recently contacted by Lipton Publicity (after they saw my post with fishnets here and thigh-highs here) asking if I would be interested in sampling some legwear by Berkshire. (This jeans + fishnets look here is still one of my favorites to date!) True to the accessorizing-queen in me, I thought why not?

Legwear is a lot of fun to play around with. It's an accessory that's not costly. (These run $11). Basic, trendy or romantic - hosiery is a staple in every woman's closet. After scrolling through Berkshire's site, there seem to be more options now than ever! Shaper, shimmersheer, full-control and luxe. They even make butt boosting! (What!) Thigh-high or just your classic everyday nylon. I requested to sample a black fishnet, backseam, and sheer dot (as those are what I gravitate towards.)

While I believe most of us know how to style tights under a dress in cool weather, I thought it would be fun to find a cute/cool way to style them weekend-friendly for a springtime blustery day. Since the fishnet trend is going strong, here is another ballerina-esk option to styling your tights.

I have been styling backseam tights for a number of years. I look to my favorite style icon who just oozes femininity -- Miss Marilyn Monroe when I want to channel my inner vixen. Sheer black tights with a backseam are simply sexy. They have that retro glamity-glam feel. (See MM wearing some here and in fishnets here.) What I love about this pair is the control top, silky sheer leg and the timeless appeal.

Berkshire Review:

Pros:

-Comfortable. I found all three pairs had good stretch (a must.) They work just as well for a few hours during a special occasion, or all day long day-to-day use.

-Fit true to size. I ordered mine based on their size chart and they fit! I love that they also offer  maternity hosiery, and have a little girl's line.

-Options. Tights, shapers, stockings, thigh-highs, knee-highs, cotton (proudly grown in the U.S.A.) and bamboo hosiery. The list goes on!

Cons:

-I did end up getting a run in my backseam tights. I know. I was super bummed. I don't know how it happened. So it's hard to say! I mean, the other two sets they sent I have worn with no trouble. I will say they are especially sheer. So maybe that had something to do with it?

Ever get a run in your tights? The worst, right!?! You either have to ditch them or go with it- adding more rips and holes embracing full-on grunge. At least you have options

While spring is here, it’s not been that warm. When do you store your tights for the season? Legwear can be a safety net, hiding pale, unshaven legs (!) and can add some extra warmth - which here in the Midwest is indeed utterly helpful! I hope you have a great weekend and you won't hear any complaints from me if you want to do an anti-rain dance or two!
