All Occasion Dress

Anthropologie: Madera Maxi Dress by Bhanuni

Every wardrobe should have one go-to lush, detail-rich dress. Think of it as a secret weapon for those spontaneous special events.

It’s great when you have the time to search out that perfect party outfit, but sometimes you only have a few hours notice. The solution is having an all-occasion dress on hand, one that works in any season and can be worn to multiple events.

When searching for a swoon-worthy gown, look for thoughtful touches that make the dress unique. Maybe it’s elaborate in structure or decoration. Perhaps it’s made of an unusual fabric, color or print.

The obstacle when shopping for an elegant dress is being able to weigh price verse wear-ability.

So, while there is no way that magnificent dress is going to get the same airtime as your favorite pair of jeans - hear me out- jeans on the rare, are truly magnifiqué! A gorgeous frock is probably going to take a dip into your clothes budget, so make it worth the investment. When you find something that meets your criteria, and makes you feel like a million, splurge. That's what makes it "special." Choose a dress you would wear traveling Europe, attending a up-scale cocktail event, or even to mark an unremarkable day! There's always a reason to celebrate, so find "the one you can't live without" and wear it every chance you get.

I have a few scrumptious dresses (mostly from weddings) that I wish I could wear all the time but they are just too romantic for a typical night out. I love this particular Anthropologie dress for it's fancy-boho style. This is an all-occasion dress that can be just as gorgeous dressed up with heels and accessories (wedding) or dressed down with a casual denim jacket and ankle boots (date night.)

It’s memorable in its vibrant colors and lovely print, but not so much that it couldn’t be worn to multiple affairs. This dress is even more exquisite in person. The upper bodice is adorned with detailed sequins, delicate beading, and dainty rosettes. The empire waist and tiered full skirt are perfect for formal events in early fall, spring and summer. It’s really a light soft fabric and the dark turquoise against the pale blues and oxblood reds give it garden party appeal.

In this particular stage in life, weddings are what come to mind when I think of occasion dressing. As a guest as you want to spiff it up, but you don’t want to out-shine the bride (or wedding party.) Wearing white is out of the question and black can be a snooze-fest. So just how fancy should one go?

Coming from a girl who likes to go glam, when in doubt, opt for elegance. Being well dressed is a beautiful form of politeness.
