Here’s what you need:
WITCH HAT:
With minimal sewing skills, you can fashion a witch hat out of scraps of fabric or easily find one at a craft store that you can embellish. Add ribbons, bows, flowers, and patches alike! I wanted mine to feel one-of-a-kind and quirky with the floppy pink star brim and vintage quilted pieces. Try an extra long top or adding pipe cleaners to give it a twisted shape!
BROOM / MAGIC WAND:
Go full DIY! See what the floral department has in stock at the craft store. I found these twisted floral sticks for the handle and dried flowers for the boom. With extra fabric I fasted them together to create a whimsical “flying” broom. You can also go natural. Scavenge sticks from your own backyard, use long grass for your straw. You can even paint yours a specific color!
DRESS:
Try a dress from your closet or thrift a full-length maxi dress in a coordinating color. Keep the dress loose and flowy. You can add a ribbon waist, or lace-up corset. Add a cape, jewelry, or tights in a stripes or a fishnet texture. Stick to your color pallet to pull the look together. I’m wearing a vintage 70s Gunne Sax dress that traveled to me all the way from Kauai! {Thank you @kuaivinatge!} and an antique cameo necklace.
BOOTS:
Pointed toes and laces are a must! {If no one will see your feet under your dress, wear what's comfortable} If you own a pair of lace-up shoes try swapping out the original laces for something colorful, lacey, or with a little sparkle. Mine are a vintage House Of Dow find!
PROPS / CRITTERS:
Every GOOD WITCH has a side-kick! What will be yours? I had a little photoshop help adding critters to my costume. If you have the budget, add a crow on your shoulder or a mouse to your hat! Hang spiders, carry a bottle of potion (aka rosé), or a crystal ball. Add some personality to your witchy wonder.
You are sure to look spooky-cute with this adorable DIY that’s so easy you’ll think it’s magic!
