Rock ‘N’ Roll Day Dreams

Concert Wear

When attending a concert, there are a few factors to consider when choosing an outfit: dance-ability, the possibility of having to hoof it long distances, and if outdoors, braving the elements.

Last weekend we saw Of Monsters and Men, and Florence + The Machine at Blossom Music Center for their How Beautiful Tour. (We stopped by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland before hand.)

Let me just say, Florence is a vocal powerhouse and crooned to a packed crowd, despite nonstop rain. The weather wasn’t happy, but we were. The show was ah-mazing! Talk about the healing power of music. The flame-haired songbird brought so much energy and spirit to the stage. I spent the entire night (in my bright yellow poncho) hands in the air, screaming lyrics along with her. Despite being baptized by rain showers, we had a great time. Florence in the rain is a must see my friends.

So, I planned this outfit expecting a warm-weather summer night, but monsoon or shine, decided to rock it anyway. Rain don’t kill my vibe!

I’ve been lusting after this B-Low the Belt “Bri Bri” double buckle belt for the last few months, but couldn’t bring myself to pay full price for the leather version. When I spotted this one, on the Forever 21 website, happiness hit me like a train on a track.* (If you caught that reference, we are now best friends.) It's made of faux leather material, hence the much more affordable price tag. The buckles are adorned with a gorgeous intricate floral design and sturdily made. The belt is available in silver or gold, and they offer a slim version here as  well.

It’s a serious high impact accessory. I love how it sits at your waist, or lower on your hips, with adjustable lengths. I find the double-buckle look so innovative. I was a little nervous the non-leather version would feel “less” but the hardware is heavy and feels substantial. Great quality. Not overly shiny, so it looks cool, instead of costume-y.

It pairs well with endless outfit combos, not just festival/concert wear. Low-slung jeans, high waist pants, cut-off shorts, full skirts, and simple tops. It will look amazing with a maxi dress. It’s also a cult favorite of celebs like Selena Gomez and Kendal Jenner, (which is how I first spotted it.) Drawling inspiration from the '70s seems to be the on-going theme for this summer for sure. (Check this post and this post.)

Other than a cool rocker-girl belt, my best advice for when it comes to attending a rock concert... wear sturdy shoes! Even if you’re not planning on moshing or jumping around, other people will be. So protect yourself with a pair of moto boots and complete the look with edgy dark pieces. Or go for a sublte ‘90s look, which feels fresh right now. Pair a girly dress with sneakers and some head-turning accessories.

Because of the dodgy weather and our long-distance lawn seats I have very few (quality) photos to share from the actual venue. But here's this little gem to give you an idea…

Covering up my outfit with a plastic bag made me so sad, but at least I stayed dry for the first 5 minutes. I must admit, I was immensely grateful my good old concert-going-extraordinaire dad suggested we bring the ponchos. Sometimes you have to for-go fashion. It was worth it to dance in the rain with Florence, rock-goddess-style. Love you Florence!
