How To Wear Socks With Heels

Jessica Wagner

Berkshire Anklets

You can pull it off! It's all about picking the right anklet and I'm here to walk you through it. (That's my one pun for the post! I promise.)

If you are on the hunt for a new way to elevate an outfit, here is an easy and inexpensive one. Socks and shoes might be a little intimidating - or feel like playing dress up in your mom’s pumps in the living room. Sure, there is a fine line between looking like a youth in their grade-school uniform and and old hippie in their Berkinstocks and ankle warmers. Both are totally cool in my book, but keep it subtle. A thinner, dressier sock is the easiest way to make this look work, and Berkshire has a ton to offer.

Step 1: The first step is choosing your anklet. There are so many different colors and styles. Black, nude, grey, cream - the list goes on. Think about what color makes sense for you style and wardrobe. Black or neutral are always a safe place to start.

Step 2: The next step is pairing your anklet with the right shoes. It might take some trial and error, but you will find a perfect match! I like the combination of a sheer anklet with a simple solid pump.

If you'v been following me, you know I tend to go feminine and romantic, but I can also see taking this style a little more edgy or even into "menswear." Stay true to you. And share it with me! It will be fun to see what you all come up with!

A few tips...

DETAILS:
Try an anklet with a pretty scalloped edge top or lace. The little touches will add a bit of softness. I love a texture, like fishnet or a print, like small dots. It is a quirky vibe. In some ways, the quirkier the better! Maybe you find a pair with bows, sparkle or embellishments! Try it. This look isn't about blending in.

MIX & MATCH
Try them on with the shoes in your closet. Pull out your strappy sandals, booties, pumps, even sneakers! I also love them with ballet flats and mules. You want to keep the ankle looking slim, so don't be afraid to adjust the height of your socks.  Scrunch em' down, or pull them up taught.

HEAD TO TOE
Besides playing around with colors and patterns, think about the look as a whole. The socks with heels thing should look quirky and eclectic, but not totally random. Pick an anklet and shoe that compliment each other and keep in mind the rest of your outfit. Try coordinating your layer of footwear in the same hue as another item - (for example, a red anklet with a red bag) to pull the whole thing together. When I was playing around with looks I preferred them to stand out from each other (for example, not black socks on black shoes.) Then see what you like the best - pair them with all lengths of skirts, dresses, jeans and even shorts.

Here are a few other ways I played around with my anklets! Try it out and let me know how it goes. Your legs will never look better all summer long!

Want more? I first introduced Berkshire tights here, also seen here, and in nude form here. You can see a sheer set of tights I styled with Hunter boots last winter here, and a dainty dot pair here, and a few party options here.

A special thank you to  Lipton Publicity and Berkshire for partnering on this post.
